About me

IMG_4971

I’m an author and playwright based in Canberra, Australia. Although I’ve written all my life, I’ve only recently focused on creative writing as a serious pursuit. I enjoy writing for children and young people. I also write plays, short stories, poetry, essays and memoir for adults. The Trouble in Tune Town, inspired by my three musical children, is my first picture book. I’m thrilled at the positive reception it has received, picking up several awards in Australia and overseas and selling out of its first print run shortly after publication, mainly through direct marketing – no small feat for a partner published debut title. I’m hoping my young adult novel, Freefalling (now True North) will be hitting the shelves in 2021.

My plays have been performed in Melbourne, Brisbane, Newcastle, Sydney, Canberra and beyond. My debut professional production, Fragments, funded by the ACT Government through artsACT, enjoyed a sellout season at The Street Theatre, Canberra and is now published by Australian Plays. In addition to my creative writing achievements, I’ve worked as an ethicist, medical writer/producer, small business owner, freelance journalist and editor of Australian Medicine. I have a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree and doctorate, each in philosophy.

My professional website is: www.maurapierlot.com.
